Maintenance Tip of the Month – Read up before you clean up for long-term bakery benefits
Whilst it’s commonly known that a regular cleaning regime is important to keep bakery equipment in top condition, it is also crucial to refer to the relevant manufacturers’ manuals to ensure correct practice.
Water, detergent, heat and items used to scrub or scrape components can cause changes to material properties, and potentially damage costly equipment.
If in doubt, warm soapy water is usually the safe option for most items.
Be especially careful when cleaning belts to avoid cutting the material with scrapers.
And remember: when removing components for cleaning, be sure to refit them correctly, as resulting failures can lead to costly damage.
