Shh! Did you hear that? When it comes to detecting machinery problems at your bakery, your ears are a valuable asset. New or unexpected noises around bakery equipment can provide an early warning sign of something going wrong, and help you to diagnose equipment issues before any catastrophic damage occurs. Here are our top tips on stray noises to listen out for in the bakery:
- Knocking and grinding noises may indicate bearing or gear failure. Pay particular attention to these and be sure to arrange a swift repair before you face an even costlier repair bill.
- Rattling noises can point to loose chains or worn bushes/bearings on moulding heads and oven turntables.
- Crackling noises might be the result of electrical short circuits or earth faults.
- Ticking noises suggest fans are loose or unbalanced and require adjustment.
- Screeching noises can be loose belts slipping.
If you can hear something awry, it’s best to act fast and either arrange for a repair or ask for a professional second opinion. Ignoring the issue – whilst always tempting – is never the sensible or economical strategy.
